Separate shared content from item-specific content

Bulk encoding can mean writing one URL to many tags or assigning a different URL to every item. These need different checks: shared content requires the right destination and quantity; individual content also requires complete mapping, missing-row checks and a duplicate rule. Identify whether the factory writes the tags or the purchaser uses an encoder. Decide whether business references, printed serials and chip identifiers must be linked. An ordinary NDEF URL is an access point. A different URL on each item does not itself establish copy protection or authenticity; those requirements need a separate chip, server-verification and data-management design.

Hand over one approved production dataset

Prepare a dataset containing the batch, business reference, complete URL and any corresponding artwork or packing reference. Treat identifiers as text to retain leading zeroes and supply the exact destination to encode, rather than a shortened display label. Use a few non-sensitive sample rows to agree column names, character encoding, delimiters and import rules with the encoding team. Repeated URLs are valid for shared content; item-specific URLs need the agreed uniqueness check. The downloadable template is a communication aid, not a promise of compatibility with any encoder. Freeze the approved production file and record revisions separately, including the affected rows and physical items.

  • Name the dataset owner, revision and approval date
  • Identify permitted duplicates and fields that must be unique
  • Agree how failed writes, replacements and rejected items enter the record

Validate the writing workflow before scaling it

NXP lists sequential multi-tag writing, CSV dataset writing and reading existing content for its TagWriter application. These are useful workflow references, but they do not prove that the encoder in this catalogue accepts the same format or supports the same functions. Confirm the specific chips, driver or SDK, operating system, import method and error feedback before selecting equipment. Android documents construction of a URI record through NdefRecord; visible URL length is not the byte size of the complete NDEF message. Encode with the final tool and check that the message fits. Use the separate NTAG213/215/216 selection guide for the memory comparison.

Check readback and the destination journey separately

A successful-write message is only one checkpoint. Read the actual content back and compare it with the approved row; also check the physical mapping where printed references or packing groups are involved. Then read the finished item with representative phones or readers and verify the URL, redirects and final destination. Record the device, sample revision, mounting condition and pass rule. Before production, agree whether checks cover every item or a defined sample, how failures are isolated and how replacements are assigned. A retry must not silently skip a row or create the wrong mapping. Preserve the approved result as the production reference.

Agree locking, handover records and quotation scope

Do not make locking the default. NXP documents read-only locking features; the data owner should approve the specific operation after correct writing, readback and sample validation. Keep an updateable test sample and decide whether future changes will use rewriting or a maintained web redirect. For a quotation, provide the tag or card specification, quantity, example data, shared or individual URLs, writing responsibility, mapping requirements and the acceptance and locking instructions. Agree the completed count, failure record, dataset revision and packing map for handover. Handle account credentials, access keys and personal lists through a separately agreed secure process.
